The Healthcare Foundation initiated a new Grateful Patient program in 2010. The program was created to recognize and unite grateful patients with their caregivers. Many donors and patients send letters or emails and contribute to the hospital each year to thank the YVMC staff for going the extra mile.
Maybe it was a kind word, a gentle smile or a warm blanket that brought comfort to you or your loved one. It could have been a lifesaving procedure or a visit from a volunteer during your stay. If you are a Grateful Patient email us at info@yvmc.org and tell us your story or click here to say “thank you” by making a donation in honor those who made a difference to you.
The Program enables physicians and staff to respond to the question: I’m so grateful for the care, what can I do? At Yampa Valley Medical Center, we make a difference in the lives of our community every day. It is our mission to provide excellent healthcare to our communities through safe, personalized, and quality services. We offer a wide range of quality health care services that demonstrate excellence.
Below are some examples of letters received by YVMC from Grateful Patients that were featured in our 2011 Annual Report.
Dear YVMC,
On my recent vacation in Steamboat Springs, I was taken to YVMC for treatment in the Emergency Room.
From the minute I walked in, concern was shown to make me as comfortable as possible. My nurse, Julie McFadden, admitted me for treatment and was kind and compassionate. My husband was very concerned about the sudden onset of my illness, and she eased his anxiety. Dr. Laura Sehnert was also extremely attentive and kind.
So, to the admissions staff, my nurse and the doctor, I express my heartfelt appreciation. You all were the epitome of compassion, and I am grateful for that.
Very Truly Yours,
Rachel F., Holland, NY

To the Maternity Staff,
We really wanted to say thank you for the awesome job you all did for us during our stay. Especially our nurses, JoAnne and Susan, and Amelia’s nurses Mary and Michelle. Sorry if we are forgetting anyone’s name, pretty intense delivery.
We really feel that you saved Amelia’s life. Your whole staff obviously works great as an entire team.
Thank you to all of you,
Grateful Patient, Hayden
Dear Mr. Gills,
I had a total knee replacement. I’m writing to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who attended to me while in YVMC. I was treated with the utmost care and concern by individuals who genuinely placed my health and well being as their number one priority.
In particular I would like to recognize: Kendra Gleffe, Rachel Huemes, Jane Sloan, Tamara Floyd, Geri Crosby, Ann Collings, Sandy Buchanan, Jill Lacourse, Debra Harris, Jacqueline Berdine, Ann Heselbach, Alicia Morton, and Jenifer Felinczak.
There were many others who provided for my care, such as the “cookie lady” and the Heeling Friends dog.
I commend you sir for your leadership in operating such a fine facility and instilling in all your employees the highest degree of pride and professionalism.
Sincerely,
David Scott Henson, Panama City Beach, FL and Steamboat Springs

Dear Mr. Gills,
My wife Patricia and I lived in Steamboat for nearly 15 years and moved to Albuquerque in 2008. We maintain a condo in Steamboat, so we can use either Albuquerque medical facilities or yours.
I started physical therapy at SportsMed shortly after my shoulder surgery. I was most impressed with the quality of care. Not only are the therapists very good, the entire staff pitches in to help each other. I did go back to Albuquerque for a few PT sessions. The care provided by SportsMed is superior.
Patricia had a hip replacement mid June. The surgical and recovery nursing staff did an excellent job. Pat’s experience with physical therapy was also excellent.
We just wanted to let you know how much a good medical experience is appreciated. Keep up the excellent job.
Sincerely,
Les Norman, Albuquerque, NM
Shannon, Tina and Jan,
I want to say, thank you, to all of you, during this journey with me and making things a lot lighter for me. I will never forget the wonderful jobs you have to do with many people and helping their lives.
God Bless!
Debra A., Yampa
Dear Labor and Delivery nurses,
Thank you for taking great care of the three of us The girls got off to a strong start, thanks to you, and I felt so supported and doted upon (in a wonderful way). You all made a joyful time for our family all the more meaningful and memorable.
The girls are growing like weeds, reminding us all the time that BIG blessings come in pretty small packages. Thank you again for your expertise, compassion and TLC!
Warmly,
Grateful Patient, Steamboat Springs
Dear Administrator,
My son was brought into the ER very early in the morning while we were on Easter vacation, enjoying Steamboat like the past 10 seasons.
I am in the health care field and always strive to give excellent care. It is a pleasure when a health care facility truly lives up to their mission as everyone did who performed at your hospital.
It started with the ambulance, ER intake secretary, ER nurse, receptionist and both doctors. The radiologist, surgeon and anesthesiologist were professional and kind, explained all diagnosis and procedures, were succinct, showed passion, commitment and humor all in a brief encounter. Post-op care was wonderful.
Please share my sincere appreciation to your entire staff.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
JoAnne J., Westfield, Indiana
