DW Awards Purpose
The Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley established the “Doc Willett Health Care Heritage Awards” in 2009 to commemorate Dr. Frederick Willett, who played an integral part in founding the first hospital in Steamboat Springs. Dr. Willett contributed enormously to our community by creating a legacy of caring, personal and quality healthcare.

The Doc Willett Awards Night gives us a chance to share the amazing stories of YVMC’s healthcare achievements, both present and past. Our goal was to create a fun night for locals and new friends to celebrate our history and congratulate two outstanding Steamboat civic leaders.

What is the Penguin Plunge?
Call it Spring fever or mid-Winter madness – for the 9th year in a row many gathered to take the icy plunge into the pool at Catamount. Volunteers used chainsaws to cut through approximately three feet of ice to reveal the inviting water below. Fundraising “Penguins” – many in costumes dancing to their choice of music – jumped or were thrown into the chilly water and then rushed to relief in the nearby hot tub!
